  1. Something like This letter is to tender my resignation effective as of (date).  I will be leaving the area to attend college.

I've enjoyed my employment here at Company over the last Time Period and thank you for all the opportunities that you have given to me.  I will be back in the area from May - August of 2009.  Please keep me in mind for any potential openings at that time.

  2. First of all, bravo to you for recognizing the value of doing this. It leaves a good impression.

You don't need anything fancy. Just a thanks for the opportunity and say why and when you are leaving. And make sure to work as hard on your last day as you did on your first.

    Good luck in school!

  3. If you have been a valuable employee, don't quit. Go to the manager and let him/her know that you have to go back to school, but you would like to keep the job so when you come back for summer or school break you can continue to work. 9/10 they will say yes.
