My son is two weeks old now and he has really runny yellow or sometimes green diarrhea for 3 days now. It used to be kind of gooey yellow with little seed looking things in it but now its just like water. He is breastfed. Is that normal or should I take him to the doctor?

  1. The consistanacy of his poops will change from day to day.  Does it smell bad?  Is he getting dehydrated?  If not, it's normal.

The only possible problem might be that he could be getting too much foremilk. That can result in greenish, more liquid stools.  So be sure to keep him on one breast until he comes off on his own.  If you switch after a certain number of minutes he won't get the rich fatty hindmilk from either breast.

If things don't improve with more attention to hindmilk, or if he gets dehydrated (few wet dipes, sunken fontanel, lethargy, dry mucus membranes) or seems ill, call the doctor right away.

  2. Normal. Sometimes yellow water sometimes seeds... Your milk is changing with baby's needs.

  3. call your doctor right away... my neihboor lost there 22 day old little boy from dehydration he had diarrhea

  4. That is absolutely normal.  It's his digestive system maturing.  It will harden up in time.  When I pulled out my oldest daughters clothes for my youngest, a lot of them were stained up the back by the runny poos that exploded through her diaper.  (sorry if that was too much info)

    Good luck!

  5. Nope, pretty normal.  Especially if you are breastfeeding.

  6. If its diarrhea i would say to call his dr. or take him inn just to make sure.

  7. call your doctor.

It may be normal but if it doesn't look like what it was before it is better to be safe then sorry. Diarrhea is VERY BAD in an infant as young in yours.
