My 12 year old son is totally nervous about his first boxing match on the 29th! He needs some advice from some guys that have been boxing a while and have experience. How do you pump yourself up for that first fight? Give me some tips to help me?

  1. wow I have a muay thai fight in Medicine Hat on the 29th too :)

Well, I like to watch knockouts on the net and picture me doing that to the guy.  I tell myself that this guy is in there to kill me and I'm going to do everything in my power to stop him from doing so !

I tell myself that this is for the Championship, even though its not a Chapionship Fight I make myself think that this is it, this is the BIGGEST fight of my life.  It could be my last fight ever and this is my LAST chance, he MUST go down, I MUST Win !

Good Day and Good Luck !!!

  2. he needs to stay warm and be sweating before he goes in. never go into a fight cold you won't be able to move as well. practice combinations and do some jump-rope before getting into the ring or whatever will get you warmed up. This is why you will see pro fighters wearing a robe as they walk into the ring and why they are moving constantly even before the fight so they stay warm. It is kinda like being a machine in a way. if the machine isn't oiled well it won't move and if the boxer doesn't stay warm they won't move either.

Also encourage him to just continue to do what his trainer is telling him to do

Thirdly and most importantly... keep your hands up and protect yourself at all times

  3. hi julie tell him you are 100% behind him and you know that he is scared but reasure him that so will the other guy be..and he is..also you must tell him that it is himself that is causing the fear and to set his mind to perform like he has trained to do and on the night he will move like a well oiled machine..and good luck!

  4. Well I could tell u too say to him the standard speech, That no matter what happens u are proud of him and always behind him (kudo's to u mom) and to give it his best, but I'm not gonna tell u that!!

I have been involved with boxing a long time and really u can say anything u want  to ease his nerves but it isn't until u step into the ring that the rubber meets the road. I was terrified the first time I sparred!! And when the guy popped me a good hook all fear left me and never came back.

Its all mind over matter, he can psych himself  up a million ways.

When I fought amateur I would pump myself up by sizing up the guy I was gonna fight, then in my mind I would actually in rage myself by thinking he said something about my mom, grandfather or even pet dog!.lol.

In amateur its about points, throwing bombs and trying to kayo the other guy works against u alot of times (trust me I know)

What I recommend is get him pumped by telling him he WILL WIN!

If he wants to be a good fighter to take it to his opponent not run, but fight smart.

Tell him u  the kid he is fighting looks terrified (use reverse psychology)

And if all else fails tell him the kid he is fighting disrespected u and u want his butt handed to him!!!! LOL.

Best Wishes to your son and I hope he makes u proud, and kudo's to u mom for backing him and supporting him!

And give us an update on how he did.
