so it's in two weeks, and i want to know what i can do to start traning for it. i have already been walking 1.5 miles a day for the past 2 weeks and for the past couples of days i've been running over a mile a day. so what can i do for the actually volleyball basics? i'm not tryout out for varsity, so i don't think i'll need to be too intense at it.

but please don't say anything mean, be positive for my sake! lol! thank you so much!

  1. you want to work on your lateral quickness and jumping.  Technique can be taught, assuming youre on JV.

Try shuffling side to side between the lines and running 'suicides' that way.  If you have access to a net : Stand on the left edge, jump and reach over  the net like you were blocking, then quickly land, side step to the right and block again.  Keep repeating until you get across.  Then go back the other way.

Also, you can try setting to yourself as you walk, it will help with your setting control, and arm strength.

  2. You should try the medicine ball, try throwing it up in the air to yourself about 20 to 30 times, for about 5 sets. This will strengthen your serve, and will give you much better hand strength  from catching that heavy ball. Also it will toughen up your skin on your hands and help to deal with all the contact your hands will get from try outs. Also you can put about five tennis balls in a row about 5 feet apart, start about five feet away from the firts ball and run to pick each ball up , return back to the starting spot each time to drop the ball, if you do this hard, it will train your body to react to sudden movements, and it will improve your quickness like crazy, just regular running will not do that, and lets face ,it volleyball is all about quickness! Good luck to you, make that squad!

  3. jumprope and skipping for height

  4. Run  stairs. Jump. EVen though you aren't trying out for varsity who says you might not make varsity? Shoot for the moon and good luck.
