Question:

2 year old ingesting tree nuts @ 4th of July?

My daughter is 2 now and i cant remember when the DR said she could have nuts. I plan on making a fruit salad that has nuts in it, and want her to have some of it, but i dont want to make any trips to the ER....please help if you know the answer.

  1. I think after the age of 2 it is more of a choking issue than an allergy issue. I would observe her eating nuts, and if she can eat them without a problem then she is fine.


  2. So give her some deliberately - open a couple and share with her- be prepared to go if necessary but most kids can eat walnuts -- peanuts seem to have a lot of allergic reactions but not so much the walnuts.

  3. three years is when it is safe give kids peanuts according to my pediatrician, she also said, It's almost impossible to avoid so just keep it to a minimum.  Good luck.
