I just wanted to know if this is too early to teach him. One day he decided he didnt want to sit on his potty anymore that he wanted to stand and hold it while, he pees, like his daddy. I dontknow if i should hold off on that, because he really wants to pee standing up and he doesnt like us to show him how to aim, he insists on teaching himself.

  1. There is nothing out there that tells parents exactly when to start something or if it is right or wrong for each child, the children are our gauge.  So given the information you have provided - I would encourage his interest in standing and follow his lead.  I have 3 boys under the age of 6, all trained at different times and different ways.  They were all introduced to the training potty chair initially, but before too long (a month or so at most) were using the big boy potty like a pro.

Try getting him a stool to stand on if he is too short to reach, so you have more of a chance of it actually going into the potty.

Another suggestion - if he wants to aim himself, put some Cheerios in the stool (just a few) and play the game of hitting the rings of cheerios with his stream.   One of my boys really like it and it helped...

    Good luck!!

  2. Maybe a hands off approach to helping him aim is best. Try putting little colored pieces of tissue paper, some Fruit Loops or Cheerios in the bowl as things to aim at. It makes him feel like he is in control and maybe he will learn better on his own.

  3. I think that is great!  It really helped my sons to figure out bladder control when they could see what was happening and connect the visual with the internal.  I researched and found a sturdy stool with sides for the toilet so they could stand and pee into a real toilet without help.  http://www.amazon.com/Elite-Child-Corpor...

This stool made all the difference for them and was well worth it.  Hope this helps.

  4. well if he can get the right aim and doesn't miss then  i think its ok! lolz! if he really wants to then let him go for it.if he is 2  then its normal to.have a nice day, and to your son: "try not to miss :-)"

  5. when i was potty training my son his daddy was in iraq-- i really had no clue how i was going to do it---- i ended up letting him take aim at a flower, tree or something outside--- he thought it was a game and learned to pee standing up like that----- the bad thing is to this day he loves to pee outside (he's almost 4) so i have to watch out, he asks to go to the potty, but then theres times he has an overwhelming urge to pee outside again.

  6. Good for him.  It's not that hard to aim.  I'm sure he'll pick it up.  h**l, I'm 37 and I still miss 10% of the time.

  7. My 2 1/2 year old gets into fits that he wants to stand too. We have a stool for him now and he stands on that with both of the tops of the toilet up. Sometimes, he even leans over and puts his hands on the top of the tank so that he's leaning right over the toilet. I think it's good to introduce the standing part whenever they want to. But, I have also heard what the previous posters have said about putting cheerios or something in the toilet, that is supposed to help too.

Good luck! I hope mine catches on soon too! We are still in the stage of him telling us he has to go AFTER the fact! :) Fun times!

  8. I'd say let him. It could be messy but, it will make him feel big. Thats how I was when I was little, wanted to be just like my dad. And when I was it made me feel very proud. So yeah, I say give him a shot.

  9. lol thats funny let him be little guy is independent well maybe try putting him on the bathtub and have him aim at something then when he has more experience try the toilet

  10. They sell a toddler sized urinal at Babies R Us--if you have room, maybe that would help.  When my son is at that age, I've thought I might put it in the shower stall in the guest bathroom.
