  1. put puff of air in her eyes she will laugh

  2. My two year olds really love to have large paper taped to the wall or floor and given various types of writing utensils to "mark".  On the same note, they love washable markers on the sliding glass door.  :-)  Washes right up with a sponge.

Any open ended art is usually a success.  Painting is always a good thing to do and you can vary it in many ways.  Today our two year olds went outside and I put fingerpaint in the plastic wading pools (primary colors so they'll mix pleasantly) and they painted the pool (which we made prints of and we'll be doing some theme related cutting tomorrow) and they painted their legs, arms and belly.  Then I added a bit of water and they rinsed off and then had colored water to play with.  Other things to do with painting- vary your painting tools, vary your colors of paint, vary you backgrounds, add texture etc.

Contact paper sticky side out is very popular---foam shapes and be put on and taken off.  You can also tape it sticky side up to the floor.  Very interesting to watch them.  Some will step right on it others won't go near...others will place toys on it.  On the same note... use various materials and make a tactile "walk"...bubble wrap, contact paper, felt, sand paper, foam, etc.

Bubble wrap- lotion on bubblewrap was a hit.  Even more of a hit was paint w/ lots of soap on bubble wrap.  They also like to run and jump on it and use hammers.

The simple game of rolling a ball back and forth is always popular.  Sing nursery rhymes, say the abc's, say numbers etc.  On the same note.  Use an oatmeal container and put jingle bells inside and then roll.  A variation... place paper inside and a few painted marbles.  Roll back and forth while child is interested and then take the paper out and see what designs the marbles made.

Water play-sensory play.  We have a plastic wading pool and I purchased plastic "wash tubs" from the dollar store.  I vary the sensory materials and tools (which could be cups and spoons to farm sets...use your imagination).  Here are some materials I've had success with.

Bean mixtures; lentils; sand; little bit of  cornmeal, squirrel corn (they love to take it off the cob and then we play with the kernals), pop corn kernals, birdseed, water, cornstarch/water.  Remember to be nearby for those who are still oral.

On the same note as above... they two year olds like sensory hands...I fill adult sized plastic gloves with oatmeal, beans, flour, etc. and they love to play with them. We've even painted with them!

Music and movement---you can make your own instruments and movement equipment.  Add some music or just sing and dance.

Tea Party- There is a cute tea pot set out there...I think it's Fisher Price.  The children love using that and even our "food stuff" (a big container of plates, cups, silverware, food) and teddy bears/dolls and having a tea party.

Books on tape are nice...especially if you are really tired!  :-)

Two year olds love clothespins...but it does take practice.  You can by sturdy colorful plastic ones at the dollar store.  Putting them on the edge of a can or a sturdy paper plate/cardboard, ruler, etc.  You can even incorporate counting and patterning.

    Do a dots

Water color paints--there are some home made recipes that work best at this age :-)  Because then you can give them a separate color at a time.  The art work doesn't last as long as regular water colors but it does the trick!

    Have fun!

  3. CLAYDOGHE!!!

  4. blow up a balloon and try to keep it in the air

    draw

  5. Go to the park

    Coloring together

    Watching a baby show together

    Listening to child friendly music

    taking them to a carnival

    playing house

  6. http://www.ourmothergoose.com has 70+ Mother Goose nursery rhymes narrated by a 'Grandpa'-type voice.

  7. Social play becomes more important for 2-year-old children.

If other children are around, your two-year-old may "explode" into activity.

She plays with toys by herself, fitting the pieces into her puzzle board.

She imitates those she knows and likes to do what they do.

    Ride-on toys

    Role-play toys

    Sports toys

    Roller skates

    Battery-powered ride-on toys

Play kitchen with toy food and utensils

    Simple remote-control vehicles

    Playdough

    Legos

    Play House

    Dress up

    Make up a play band

Make sure you get outdoor time, go to the park, take a walk, ride bikes.

    Any fun, easy art project
