  1. My friends child had major heart surgery when he was 2 and  he did just fine.  It is very scary for any mom to have to go through this.  Question your doctor very carefully and get all of the answers you need to make you more comfortable.  I hope that everything comes out fine for your child.

  2. Hi Donna, i hope you have lots of friends and family for support, you will all get through this and be stronger for it, im absolutely positive everythings going to come out fine and just wanted to say there are loads of us out here thinking about you and your kids, and saying a wee prayer for you. good luck

  3. My son had major open heart surgery when he was 11 days old.  The best advice that I can give you is to expect a roller coaster.  It takes awhile after the surgery to get him stabilized.  My son went through h**l and back after his heart surgery.  I will not get into the details because I do not want to scare you but, he did have to stay in the ICU for 4 months and 1 month on the cardiac ward. You will be told the routine but prepare for anything to happen.  In the long run I finally got him home.  I have seen many kids go in for heart surgery and not one of them is the same.  Most of the children that I have seen have had some complications after surgery but, 99% of them made it.   Bring lots of soft tissues and prepare to see things that you never in your life wanted to see before.  If his chest is left open after the surgery to allow for swelling you can request the ICU to place a blanket on top of him.  You can also get a ID band from the hospital pharmacy.  You will just need to get it engraved.  If you want to talk more you are more then welcome to email me.  Soccene@yahoo.com.

  4. The best advice is: Keep as calm as you can your kids will pick up on it if your not.  While he is in surgery get comfy and try as best as you can to chill, make sure the nurses always know where you are.  He will be fine though xx

Also it depends on what his problem is and how its treated etc as to wether or not he needs a medi-lert braclet.  Your consultant would be the best person to ask x*x

  5. hi donna

my little girl had open heart surgery 4 months ago. They had to stop her heart and she was in surgery for over 8 hours. It was the most traumatic experience of my life, seeing my little girl go through what she did.

Nothing anyone can say will make you worry less, but my little girl got through it and is going from strength to strength.

Its not over yet for my daughter, she will need surgery all through her life.

All I can do is wish you loads of love and tell you that kids are strong and resilient.

Lots of love to you and your little boy xxxxxxx

  6. I wish you both all the best for a good outcome to surgery.  I had OHS 2 years ago.  Yes get him a barcelet.

I suggest you join a childrens heart group , there are many online just find one you like.
