  1. At this age he's just getting used to being in the water. It's all about making him comfortable in the pool. Sing songs, play games but don't expect him to be doing the front crawl anytime soon.

  2. first give him water wings and go in to the deep end hold his hands and let him try to kick..after a while take some air out of the water wings...repeat this processuntill he is comfertable with out them...also play a game that has him dunk his head into the pool to get him used to the water

  3. babies can be put in the water from 6 monts onwards

has he got armbands or something?

  4. Organise swimmign lessons for him or play with him in the pool and keep in the part of the pool where he can keep his feet on the floor.

  5. i took my 2yr old swimming today... walking around the pool is all he does too! he occasionally tries to kick his legs when i hold him but he'd rather just walk. i think as long as they are getting the experience of being in the water and being confident in the water then at 2 i wouldn't worry too much about the actual swimming until he's a bit older.

  6. He may just not be interested in swimming or he is too distracted. Try to bribe him into the pool.

  7. it is not early, but fear does that. do not force him, otherwise, he will have phobia or something. start with bath and let him play with ducks and toys then encourage him to play with them in the pool. he will enjoy it.

  8. If he likes being in water, and will float off on his own (with water aids) then you are doing a great job.  Normally we dont teach until three or four, but having a kid who is happy and confident in the water is a big bonus.  Let him run, play and splash about - especially if he gets used to having water on his face, being splashed, etc.  Let him learn to love the water and see you all swimming and having fun, playing ball etc, and he will want to be a part of it.

  9. You can't teach them to properly swim at this age.

Build up his confidence in the water, have him jump in, go on the slides etc and make sure he goes regularly, by the time he's 5 you can start teaching him to swim proplerly, thats what we've done with our kids and they're all doing great at swimming.

He should be swimming properly on his own by the time he's about 8.

  10. Bring him into the pool and hold him at his sides while he kicks and moves his arms.

Most kids don't learn to swim on their own until they are about 4, some even later.  I used to teach at the YMCA and the youngest I ever saw anyone swim with no help (teacher or devices) was 4.

  11. don't worry to much, patience is the key!....use a rubber ring or arm bands, my little boy loves it now!........soon he will be jumping in no time!

  12. he's two, i think it's to early!!

  13. my daughter was swimming at 1, get your child used to the water first with armbands or vest i used a confidence life jacket which was brill, they then get used to swimming on their own, if you get a confidence life jacket they have removable floats inside, remove one or two every so often.

  14. Take him over his depth and let him hold your hands and kick his feet, he will pick it up very quickly

  15. Never too young to learn to swim. The problem is bouyancy. He needs either waterwings or one of those foam floats. If he is bouyant walking is not an option. You can take him into deeper water confident he will stay afloat and be unable to reach the floor. Of course you will also be there to help.

  16. its never to early to learn to swim! at this age its just getting his confidence up in the water thats most important. as others have suggested try some buoyancy aids or one of those vests with polystrene floats in. buy a ball to play with in the pool.

i`d also suggest asking at  your local pool if they do lessons for little ones, many pools hold lessons up till the age of 5 yrs where little ones are just taught the basics.

good luck with his lessons, your doing a great job.

  17. My son learned when he was two, but you have to take him in the deep water where he can't walk around. Get him a swim vest and have him swim around with you in the deep water. My son was diving off the high dive when he was 4.

  18. If you go to a swimming bath by you , you could ask them if they do any swimming lessons for his age.

  19. Start out in water over his head.  Hold him and make a game of putting his head and your head under the water.  Do this over and over again.  He'll have a great time.  Do it for longer and longr periods of time until he is comfortable with having his head under water.  Then start with just holding his hands and not supporting his weight.  All babies have a natural instinctive ability to swim that is lost after 1-2 years.  he may or may not naturally try kicking his feet and swimming.  The instinctive swimming motion for humans is sort of a doggie paddle/breast stroke combination.  Don't be too particular with your 2 y/o about technique.  Just get him to feel comfortable in the water and swimming should be second nature.

  20. children learn through play and at this age he is confidence building only , don't be in a rush to get him swimming you may scare him and put him off all together.

it is something he will achieve on his own with your guidance and he will then be keen to gain your praise when he can swim .buy him things that help him float such as float boards, and treat swimming as a game.

  21. ACTUALY U ARE TRYING VERY EARLY . TO LEARN SWIMING YOU HAVE TO WAIT TILL HE GETS 6-7 YEAR OLD . 4 MORE YEARS TO GO . COME ON-------------

    YOU CAN WAIT .

TILL THEN YOU CAN TEACH HIM SOMETHING VERY EASY .

  22. I started taking my daughter swimming (shallowest water was 3 feet 6 inches) when she was 18 months old and out of napkins during the day.  Babies were not allowed in the Swimming Baths until they were out of napkins.

She had inflatable armbands and was swimming well with these within a few weeks.  I reduced the air in them, gradually, and she was swimming unaided and unafraid before she was 2 years old.

I taught her myself - what can lessons do which you can't especially as your boy will probably trust you more than strangers?

  23. swim lessons with a swim instructor!
