  1. The 1954 movie came closer to the book than later movies did - but it was only fair at best. Kirk Douglas as the main character was a bit exaggerated...and keep in mind that this was a Disney movie & thus took its own unique stance with the book. The book left Capt. Nemo's disappearance inconclusive ( because there was a sequel in which Nemo & the Nautilus had survived the whirlpool & landed on an island where Nemo conducted fanatastic experiments) but the movie actually showed Nemo's death(which Disney later ignored in the movie sequel when Nemo, played by the same actor, inexplicably was alive!) Lots more differences - too many to list here - though the overall story line was relatively intact.

  2. the movie was the same exact type of horror movie made in the 50's. Almost every d**n horror movie made in the 50's had the same type of story including 20,000 leagues under the sea about some dudes who find a monster

  3. Off on a tangent:

The coolest rendition of the submarine Nautilus is in the movie "League of Extraordinary Gentlemen."
