20 gallon fish tank?

Question

one, how large is a 20g? two, I'm going to leave to get a turtle in 4 hrs 17 min! I've seen the box turtle i want at the pet store, it wasn't even a foot it was about 8 or 9 inches long. Last night I finally figured out where to put it. On the dresser right next to my bed it's about 2 ft 8 inches. If that's not enough room I could get sometheing smaller. The turtle at the pet store didn't have a big tank, but he had another friend with him in there and they seemed to have plenty of room.

PS you don't have to give me info 'cause I've been all over this website typin' in questions and giong online and once a week for the summer I had to go to the library and this year I've gotten a turtle book every week

There lots of different dimensions for 20 gallon tanks. See website below. It's not really a good idea to use petstore housing as an idea of how a reptile or any animal should be kept. Those are only temporary living quarters and ridiculously undersized 99% of the time.

I just want to add that a 20 gallon fish tank is probably a really bad home for a box turtle. You said you have been reading all summer about turtles.. well in 5 minutes of searching i've found that the fish tank your thinking about using is not good for the species your looking at. Refer to the 2nd website posted below for good info on box turtles, particularly about getting one from a petstore. Please make sure it was captive bred and not wild caught!!! Take a little more time to think about your purchase for the turtles sake.

20 gallon tanks differ in size, but they are usually about 1 foot deep and 2 ft wide.

It should be a fine size for a while.  Take a measuring tape to the store with you.

I would suggest looking for a used one... try craigslist

My 20 gallon turtle tank is 3 feet long, 1 foot wide, and 1.5 feet tall.  I use it for my two 6-inch long turtles.  It's plently of room for them so I'm sure it will work for your turtle.  You may want to get a bigger one for your turtle eventually to make it more comfortable (if it grows a lot).

why are u asking about 20gal tanks u could only put a young one in there. u really need 10 gallons for every inch of shell so a 8-9 inch turtle will have a shell size of 5-6-7 inches so u need 50-60-70 gallons.
