Question:

20 weeks pregnant with 100 protein in urine?

I went and had my 20 week check up and ultrasound Wednesday and I noticed that after I'd "peed in the cup" and it had been checked that she'd written down "protein - 100". But the doctor didn't mention anything about it. My BP was normal (118/68) and I don't have much swelling, if any. Should I be worried about this?

This is my first pregnancy. I'm 28 and so is my husband. We were told we would never have children, although we always wanted them. After 6 years of trying >WHAM< it happened.

Any help or comments would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

  1. I would ask about it...my daughter has a kidney condition in which she spills protein in her urine....I don't want to scare you or anything, but we all really need to be proactive about our health when it comes to dr.'s. Ask, just to be on the safe side.

  2. You should be worried if your blood pressure increases and the protein levels increase. High blood pressure with protein in your urine is Pre-eclampsia. But, you have to have a level of 300+ and your blood pressure has to have at least 2 readings of I believe it's 145+/100+ . I had pre-eclampsia with my first child and was induced at 37 weeks and bp of 157/104 and proteins were above 300+. This time, I am 38 weeks with proteins at 210+ and bp's at 140/101- 146/104. I am flirting with pre-eclampsia.

As long as your bp's are low and your protein stays below 300 and you don't experience any consistent headaches, blurred vision pain in your upper right side, severe swelling of extremities above your feet/ankles and rapid weight gain, you should be just fine. make your dr. explain to you what the protein in your urine means, they should be telling you this anyway.

  3. Nah your doctor would have mentioned it if he was worried about your blood pressure. The best thing you can do now is sit back and relax. Stress and unnecessary worry can make things worse if something would be wrong. It sounds like things are fine though. Congrats on the new baby and enjoy your pregnancy as much a s you can!

  4. My Doctor told me that all pregnant women have a small amount of protein in the urine while pregnant, it is just par for the course. If the Doc didn't mention it then I wouldn't be too worried.

  5. That does scream Preeclampsia but if your doctor didnt mind I guess you are fine. Call tomorrow just to make sure he noticed :D

Congrats Im happy you got pregnant like you always wanted :D

  6. If your doctors didn't mention anything about it I wouldn't be worried. They would say something about it if it was a cause for concern.
