Please read this. I really need help.

I'm 20 (21 in October) and a college student. I make an hour commute to school twice a week. I'm thinking about getting a studio apartment near school. I've found some listings from $500-650.

I feel like my life has stayed the same for all of my 20 years. I'm not sure if I'm ready for a change, but I think I need one. I'm not living my life. I stay home and do nothing. I'm not growing as a person anymore because I'm still living at home and haven't branched out- it's hard to make friends as a commuter. The only thing that's holding me back is money. I have enough and I can afford it, but do I want to spend all of that money every month?

Should I stay home and save my money?

Should I move out and live my life and enjoy my college years?

  1. look i think you should stay if ur parents don't interrupt you because everyone needs money save it then shift

  2. Move out. Youll grow so much as a person, plus you'll be super proud of yourself.

  3. Maybe your folks should kick you out,

look at the money they could save. Do you contribute to your parents or just sponge off them?

Do you work? or does the government pay your tuition.

Other than rent how are you going to pay all your other expenses, sure ask your parents after all that's what they are there for  Quit your belly aching ,stop posing dumb questions figure it out yourself How about joining the Military they will pay your way and you could be of service to your country

  4. I know how you feel.  I feel the EXACT same way.  I'm a 21 college student.  I want to move into my own apartment near school, but I already take out 10k a year on loans.  I figure I'll just save my money, and stay at home while I am welcome there.

    Furthermore...

Don;t waste your money on apartments...

Save the 500 per month and put it into a nice savings account.  You can have money for a down payment your OWN house after you graduate!  Being a home owner at 24/25 is something worth saving for and definitely something to be proud of!

  5. Stay home and save!!!! Good God, your parents are giving you a real head start!  Don't be stupid, take it.

Do you imagine for a minute that college is like the movies?  Animal house? Spring break?  ya...

You got 1 professor and 300 student, Do you think the Prof baby sits you while you do your reading assignment? NOPE

he lectures, you take notes, frantically.. 6 hours of this.. Then, you read the 6 chapters he assigns on "alphabetically listing  phone directories"  PLUS a Theseus you need to complete for your final year.  Besides, where do you think the money to party is coming from?  $500 to $650 doesn't fall out of trees, or form under your pillow.

You are better off living at home, banking $400 to $550 a month, taking the $100 to go out bi-weekly or whatever teen girls do with their money. (buy those freaky little multicolored toe socks?) (my niece will give me a dark look for that one if she reads it)

You are also going to want a car at some point, and gas, and insurance, and licensing, etc..

Basically, you are starting out your adult life.  Your parents are giving you any help they can, such as room and board, obviously they are not filthy rich, or they would be buying your apartment, and it is much better to come out of school even with the board, or with a few thousand in your account to get you started, than it is to come out with a big student loan looming over you.

Also, student loans are a great thing, but more students than money.  If you can pay your own way by staying at home, that could mean 1 more student who doesn't have your blessings can attend.

There is a lot more to consider besides enjoying yourself, you have lots of time after college to do that. (until the kids come along then you become your parents ... lol)

    PS..

An hour commute!  Twice! a WEEK? OMG the humanity!!!

I take an hour  to get to work every day,  an hour to get home if I can catch the last bus that goes by work, if not, it is a $10 cab fare to the bus stop where the later buses run or an hour walk, and then 35 minutes more on the bus. Or it runs me $80 a week in gas just to get to work and back. Bus costs me 20.

2 commutes a week aren't so bad, are they?  (you can do more studying on the bus)
