I have a 2000 grand caravan that is setting me nuts. I am having a very difficult time getting it dianosed. I'm a deisel trcuk mechanic and to describe what I have checked and have tried would take about 10 pages here. I'd appreciate it if one of you knowledgeable Dodge guys would offer a way that I might speak more directly with you. The van has a 3.0 v-6 in it, has low power on hills and will stumble or misfire when reved up in a passing gear. Keep getting code 1391... cmp-ckp... have checked and replaced both. have replaced, plugs, wires, cap& rotor, fuel filter. replaced timing belt 2 months ago, but also had to get back into it, recently... it had jumped time(2-3 teeth off on front cam) re timed it, butdrivabilty condition still existed. also replaced Cat convertor today... it was in very bad shape. could the excessive backpressure caused the timing to jump?? I'm stumped.. thanks in advance.

  1. when time jumped did the valves get bent? try compression test...u may learn u have bad valves/rings...also if worse when warmed up think coil[s]....R U sure u didn't put distuter in a tooth off??? i rebuilt my S 10 chev and spent over a week trying to figger what was up,,ran like c**p

  2. You should check all the things the two answers before me have mentioned but be sure you at least check that ignition coil , Id try another one in its place if it not already , plus check the grounds to the comps and especially the connections on the sensors and any other plug in devices , plus check vac hoses and vac lines and be sure you double check on the work you did already too.

Hope that helps and best of luck.By the way a internally corroded or faulty wire could cause this problem too check the wires feeding the ignition coil carefully or replace them with new wires.

  3. you need to run a fuel pressure check on this one to verify the amount of fuel its getting, its sounds like a fuel pump is going out or the throttle position sensor is going bad on it,it may not throw a code for it yet but they can still be bad,id try that before i spent much more money on it,sounds like you have spent a small fortune on it already and still have the same problem,it can also have a cracked coil on it causing this too happen and their really hard to find, good luck with it.
