Question:

200 watt sub woofer?

i bought this 200 watt subwoofer a little while ago knowing it was for a car/truck because i figured i could get around it and hook it up to my system in my room and i can't find it out because i have no amp that i can just plug into my wall any ideas anyone?...

  1. You need an amp.

    They make fairly dedicated subwoofer amps for DIY subwoofer builders.  Check out www.partsexpress.com

    Note: you probably need to build an enclosure for the driver, they sell kits for this as well.

Dedicated subwoofer amps seem overpriced to me.  If you have a receiver or computer sound card with a ".1" subwoofer output, you could use an old stereo receiver or integrated amp:   Connect the "subwoofer" or ".1" output from the receiver to one of the AUX, CD, or TAPE input on the stereo amp.  If you REALLY like bass, look for a good deal on a used pro-sound amplifier like a Peavey CS-800 or Behringer EP-2500.  With some luck you can pick one up for under $200, and have 800 to 1200 watts of house-shuddering bass.
