Question:

2000 Ford Focus A/C problem?

Yesterday I went to use the a/c but it would not come on. When I pressed the button the green light comes on to indicate the a/c is on and the fan is working, but the compressor is not kicking in. The fuse is fine. Could it be a relay in the box under the hood.

thanks

  1. Check the belt first, then check the relay under the dash and the fuse. Compressor may be bad also.

  2. these cars have a problem with the compressors losing refrigerant from the front shaft seal on the compressor.  to refill you have to take the plastic wheel well shrouding in the p side wheel well. the low side fitting is in there.  the relay in the ac system acutally a climate control relay which is a computer for the air conditioner system if that has failed its about 200 dollars for a replacement. this is also a common problem.

  3. possible relay,,, also unplug ur low pressure switch, then jump cross the terminals,, if compressor kicks in uve lost some freon and ur system is low,,,

take to a good garage or repair shop that does AC,,,

ya need manifold guages to correct ur problem correctly,,,,

to little or to much freon are both bad for ur system and will cause extra and more expensive repairs,,,,,,,

over time due to vibration most systems will loose enough freon to cause this problem,,,,,,,,,,,,,,

    good luck,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,

  4. Yes! most definitely. Check you're AC relay and see if you're getting power to the Compressor. If you are then you may have a bad compressor. If you are not then try switching a Relay. That should take care of your problem. Good Luck!
