I have a 2000 Honda Accord, V6. only 95k miles.

Whenever I leave my car out in the hot Texas sun all day, the car heats up, & will not start. I turn the key, the car clearly turns and cranks, but it never catches to start the engine. all power is on, and it turns, so its not the battery. There have been a few times where it does catch and start the engine, but just as soon as I let go of the key, the engine dies. and wont re-start. The odd thing to me is, if I wait about 15 minutes, after trying, the car starts perfectly! AND, if I leave my car in the sun all day, and try to start it at night, when its much cooler, the car starts beautifully! also it starts everytime when I park in my garage, its maddness! I have theorys of spark plugs, to relay switches, I am no mechanic, I'm just using common sense to try to figure this out. I want to avoid a situation where I end up replacing one thing at a time, for months on end, and unneccissary costs, and wasted time. Problem only in summer!

  1. It sounds like it could be the main relay for the computer and fuel pump. It's located under the dash on the drivers side so if it's getting hot then that could be causing it to not start.

You should have it check to be sure though.

  2. i would think that it is vapor locking. Basicaly when the fuel is real hot it is not starting also ive seen it be the fuel filter also. Try the fuel filter first just take it to a quick lube and pay em 30 bucks to install on and i bet it will work

  3. You need to get another radiator.

  4. The car is 8 years old:

Does not start in hot weather.  Starts in cold.

    * The car is vapor locked.  When the heat you speak of hits the car, something expands and causes you to suck air instead of gas.

    * When the engine cools, winter: no trouble - car starts.

Places folks might start looking - fuel pump.  Fuel pumps aren't like light bulbs (on or off), most deteriorate slowly delivering less and less fuel. Quite possibly you have a weak fuel pump...it's 8 years old and my be about time.

If the fuel pump is fine; look over the carb., but the first place to look is the fuel pump.

  5. If Engine turns but won't start when weather is hot. It is probably the main fuel pump relay Honda accords have a problem with this. When gets too warm inside the car the car won't start. Can sometimes start it by spraying a cooling spray from radio shack on it.

  6. someone else here hit the nail on the head!! been there done that! it IS the main fuel relay under the dash.  Have it changed...or go to the juck yard,,get one, change it...problem solved
