2000 Pontiac Grandprix issues?

Hi all.

I have the above car and I get the following problem. Yesterday it was driven for about a hundred miles. Later in the night, after parking it for a few hours, I drove it around and every gear that the car changed was very rough, and the car was kicking really hard.

The next day, after it cooled down, the transmission was very smooth. It was smoother than I ever seen it before.

Other problems, the coolant dries up really quick, and is quite sludgy. The check engine light is off now.

What could be the problem and how can I check the computer system?

  1. The ECM will shorten up the shift time(make it shift harder) when the trans is very hot, to cut friction and temperature. Also, any trans trouble code will send it to default shift patterns. Code clears, normal shifting.

I'm thinking trans cooler leak(it's in the radiator) allowing fluid exchange between both systems.

  2. Well to check the computer you need a code reader.  Just take it to your local independent shop cuz you probably have a big problem if your coolant is drying up & sludgy.  It sounds like oil is getting into the coolant or something (which isn't good at all).
