I just bought a 2000 S10 with 120000 miles. Truck was owned by an old man, and was taken care of. It looks like it has 60,000 miles on it. I had a tune up done already including plugs, wires, distributor cap ect. but the truck still cuts out a little while accelerating. Im guessing the air filter is dirty or maybe MAF sensor? But to be honest i dont have a clue and I could be way off. The truck does better when i am shifting at high rpms. But even with the cruise on I can feels it cutting out a lil every so often.....I dont know much about automobiles and i was wondering what could be causing this? Professional opinions would be very appreciated! Thanks!

  1. This is a fuel-injected engine and probably needs some type of fuel treatment added to the fuel. My suggestion is some Lucas fuel treatment as it seems to work very well, you may also try replacing the fuel filter. Both of these are very inexpensive repairs and can be done by you, just be careful when replacing the filter as the fuel is under pressure and you may need to shield the lines with a rag to prevent any spray from contacting your skin or eyes.Good Luck!

  2. You may have a dirty mass air flow sensor, low fuel pressure or volume.  There engine require 60-62psi of fuel pressure and if its 1psi off, it can cause drivability problems.

Also, these engines are also known for the ignition coils going out.  Open your hood and look at your ignition coil, its on the right side of the engine right above the valve cover.  A sure sign its going out is a fine gray/white powdery residue around the coil.  That means the coil is arcing under load and that could be your rough running problem too.  But when in doubt, you can always spray the coil lightly with water from a spray bottle and see if you see sparks arcing against the coil body.  If it is, replace it.
