2000 VW Jetta transmission

My husband and I have a 2000 VW Jetta and I loved it (when it worked) a few months ago the transmission went out. We took it to a shop in town and they said it would be around 4 grand plus labor to buy and install a new one!!! Well needless to say we don't have 4,000 sitting around. My question is has anyone ever had a transmission rebuilt or something and how much did it cost? My husband deploys in a few months and I am moving back home and wanted to take my car with me BUT I can't drive it as it now. ANY suggestions will be greatly appreciated!!!! THANKS!!!

  1. well once my mate needed a new trans for his statesman. cost him like $2,500 i think. but then when he drove it one day there was nothing wrong with it. maybe u need to practice your gear changes.

  2. If it costs more to get the car fixed than it's worth, it's time for you to stop throwing money down that black hole and get another car that will give you a few more years of problem-free service.

Go to Kelley Blue Books ( http://www.kbb.com ) and find out how much that 2000 Jetta is worth.  If it's worth less than the $2500 it takes to rebuild a tranny, junk it and get another car.
