2000 impala transmisson problems?

I have a 2000 impala, The tranny slips going into 3rd gear and over drive, only when is 20 F or below. Then slips when it is trying to get out of overdrive, again only when it is cold out. I read it could be a vacum hose? thats all I realy found

  1. Check the transmission throttle linkage when the vehicle is cold - it may be freezing and not telling the transmission how much throttle you are using resulting in low line pressures and early up shifts. If this does not correct the problem, another possibility is a worn seal or a small crack may exist in the case which allows excessive internal oil leakage only when the metal is cold but i suspect the real problem is the transmission is just worn to the point that very soon it will be slipping warm or cold. You did not give the mileage on it but according to the model year I would expect that there are around or over 100k.  The solution ...  rebuild or replace the transmission. Get 3 or 4 estimates - chose the middle estimate.


  2. there is no cable for the trans or vacuum hoses on your impala its is controlled by the pcm aka computer try warming  it up before you drive in the cold if still having issues its the trans lots of them have problems in earlier years have the pressure check by a mech they also had a valve body update that needed to be done on some
