My 4runner's vehicle skid control/traction light is on, apparently the sensor is located in the transmission. Any way I can disable that sensor without dropping the transmission, thus shutting the light off?

  1. Depending an which version 4runner (limited, sr5) you can have up to 5 Vehicle Speed Sensors. If the VSC computer notices something majorly wrong with the VSC system it will put the vehicle in limp mode. Limp mode means horrible gas mileage, no power, bad shift controls, always in four wheel drive. Jump not a good idea. You got to take it in and have it fixed, this is a safety thing. VSC = Vehicle Skid Control... ABS with a big brain and control.

  2. There is not a sensor in the trans, there is a ecu under the dash that controls the light.

It reads the output from the speed sensors and yaw rate sensor.

You need to have the code read then you will know what is wrong and how to fix it.
