  1. Tel Mum to take the Van to a her trusted Mechanic and tell them the 'Check Engine' light is on. The only way they can determine what the problem is is to put it on the computer. It could be the Oxygen Sensor. No real harm done however, replacing it, will improve your gas mileage by 2%

Tell her to replace what ever her trusted mechanic tells her to replace.

  2. All cars have different service schedules. At 75K you usually do a full inspection to look for any problems, oil and transmission service, air, fuel and cabin filters. Tire rotation and brake inspection. belts if needed. If the light is just on and not flashing, it is strictly a service reminder. Flashing means there is a system failure that needs to be addressed ASAP

  3. On the 2001 Chrysler T/C will not illuminate a check engine light due to mileage. You have to take it to a shop to find out what the code is and they may have to do further diagnostics on it. If the engine light stays on solid, it is ok to drive there. If it flashes then you need to stop the vehicle and get it towed to a shop, if it flashes you can cause failure to the catalytic converter and then the vehicle repair can be very costly. I would first check the fuel cap, most engine lights on this year of vehicle will come on due to emissions leaks. See if it is tight and ask your mother is she kept the van running while fueling. Most causes, keeping the A/C on too keep the vehicle cool in warm conditions. If she shut it off, then she needs to take it to a shop, preferably to a Chrysler Dodge Jeep dealer to get it diagnosed. I am a service manager of a CDJ dealership. I hope this helps.
