I had been driving at 70mph for about 30mi. when I noticed the engine revving higher than usual(~2300). Further testing showed that all shifts were occurringg in the 22-2300 range. I also noticed that if I lifted off the gas a little the shifts would occur at lower rpms. However, at 75mph it was at 2500rpm and not shifting into overdrive. I wasn't in an area where I wanted to go any faster to see if it would eventually shift and I didn't want to push the tranny anyway. All the shifts felt smooth when they occurred.

I have owned my D since new and it has 69K mi. Except for the recalls and a tie-rod I haven't had any problems with it. Changed the transfer case fluid at 40K and was planning on changing the tranny fluid and filters by 70K, as well as the differential fluid. The tranny fluid is at the proper level, still light red and doesn't have a burnt odor. Also, no warning lights on the dash. The engine is the 4.7L.

  1. Since no check engine light there is technically not anything messed enough to get the computers attention. So why is the computer thinking everything is ok? Bad battery cables/grounds maybe? Sure you don't have the button pushed on the end of the shifter? ( overdrive off ) If cables, grounds, user error and burned out warning lights are eliminated then disconnect the battery terminals and reconnect after 30 minutes to a do ahard reset and see what happens.

  2. your tranny could be going bad or just need rebuilding
