Former Australian captain, Steve Waugh, has cited the 2001, Eden Gardens Test against India, as the best Test he has ever played.
The 46-year-old former Aussie all-rounder was present at the historic Lord’s venue to witness the 2000th Test of the world cricket when media reporters approached him for a casual interview.
The legendary Aussie batsman, who led Australia to 15 of their record 16 consecutive Test wins, said that the Test match between Australia and India at the Eden Gardens of Kolkata is the best Test in history.
“Among the 1999 Test matches, if I have to speak about one Test that would be the Test match at Eden Gardens in 2001 where India won after following on. How can we forget Laxman's innings of 281? In my opinion that is the best Test match in the game's history,”
stated Waugh.
The former right-arm medium pacer turned down the option of getting involved with the Australian cricket in any capacity. He said that he was too busy with his business and other commitments. He, however, did add that he attends the MCC meetings whenever
he receives an invitation from the Marylebone Cricket Club.
