My 2001 civic maintenance required light came on and stayed on today. It usually goes away within 20 seconds of starting the car. What does it mean? Is there something wrong with my car? Should i take it to the shop?

  1. That light just keeps track of when you need to do a tune up. If you get the car serviced at the shop they'll reset the light for you. If you do the tune up yourself then here's what you do to turn the light off

    1. turn the key to on, don't turn on the engine just turn it to the ON position

    2. the light will come on, push in the mile reseter which is that black pointy thing that is sticking out right below the Miles per hour.

    3. Hold it in until the light dies

  2. That's a reminder to get scheduled work done. It can be reset by doing the following:

Hold the trip odometer reset button in. Turn the key to the run position (before the start position), all the lights will come on.

After about 8 seconds, the maint rqrd light will go out.

Any problems, let me know, I have an '01 Accord.

  3. The light is to make you aware that your car is do for routine maintence. I is not a malfunction indicator like the check engine light. Based on the mileage of you vehicle there is routine maintence that the manufactuer suggests that you have performed.
