Question:

2001 Monte Carlo Amp and Stereo?

Hi all,

I have a 2001 Monte Carlo and I purchased a Sony aftermarket stereo last year and has been working since this morning. I was playing my ipod from the AUX port and all of the sudden the songs are skipping and the stereo starts to fade in and out. I then start to smell electronics burning, so I pull over and go into the trunk and noticed the smell was coming from the factory amp.

Does this amp provide power to the stereo? Is this why I have no power to the stereo?

Thank you for your time and any help

buy this cable  don't do it with out this interface

  2. Nooo the amp does NOT power the radio.

This problem sounds like you have the ground wire touching the 12V or the remote wire on your amp which is creating a burning smell which in turn means all of your electronics are slowly shorting.

Try unplugging the two wires and separating them, you can also get wire harnesses at any local hardware store for a few bucks which ensures that shorts wont happen.

    Best of luck
