Ok.. i have a 2001 Nissan Sentra GXE 1.8L, 5 speed.

i went out of town for 2 weeks and it wasn't started for the two weeks i was gone. when i came back and tried to start my car it wouldn't start... after trying for a few minutes it started. i ran two miles down the road to the store and was in the store for about 10 minutes. when i came out my car wouldn't start again. so we towed it home. the next morning it started right back up. it has been doing this for close to 2 months now. it'll just turn over just like normal but wont fire. recently i bought some starter fluid and when it wouldn't start i tried the fluid and i was unsuccessful. a friend came over with his OBDII software and couldn't connect with my car. he told me to buy a new battery since mine was a cheap battery and 3 years old.. i bought a new battery and it started right back up... i drove it 2 miles down the road and while i was driving the gauges went crazy then it died. it wont start. my father and i believe it has something to do with wiring. i think maybe a rat or something chewed a wire or something. we thought it could be spark plug wires but there are none lol... maybe ignition coils?? BUT it would still start if one was bad, whats the chances of them ALL going bad at once... i don't have a clue as to what it could be... i have a sub and an amp, and my parents think its the wiring for that. but i've unhooked it all and still no start.... maybe some mechanic with some electrical experience could help... anything would be GREATLY appreciated... i am a high school student working a full time job trying to pay my bills... no car = BIG DILEMMA!

thank you guys so much!!

  1. You could not have any fuel going into you car, a dirty or clogged fuel filter, no spark, bad ecu, it could be numerous things or just a simple thing like a fuse. I had a few cars where it was a fuse under the hood, to where i got it to crank but wouldnt start, that ended up being a bad timing belt that bent all the valves. Your best bet is to have a mechanic look at it and find out and at most you will be out only 25 bucks. just tell them whats wrong and they will start to troubleshoot it.
