The radio in my car sometimes gets REALLY loud when I turn DOWN the volume. It has scared my kids, blown 2 or 3 speakers, and has probably resulted in hearing loss when i get older :) The car is all stock, except for two of the speakers I've replaced already, and they are pretty plain speakers. The issue happened before replacing the speakers too. Whats wrong, and what can I do to fix it?

  1. Well, Personally I'd replace the stereo with a fancier non-stock unit that plays MP3's, WMA's, etc.  Of course, that requires money.

As for fixing it, It probably would need to be taken apart and repaired, which I wouldn't even mess with as a Do-it-myselfer.  I would say a professional would charge an easy $50 to repair it, which could go towards a brand new, kick-butt unit.  You can get a cheap aftermarket stereo that is way better than the stock one for $150-$200.  Of course, I am assuming that your car doesnt have some 10-disc ultra-option upgrade already.
