Today at work I found at 2001 Rhode Island state quarter that appears to be silver. It isn't the normal metal sandwich and it sounds just like a 1964 or earlier quarter. Is this from a proof set or something? What would it actually be worth?

  1. The US Mint does issue silver versions of the state quarters.

    Look at http://catalog.usmint.gov/webapp/wcs/sto...

They are 90% silver - it would be worth slightly more than 90% the spot price of silver.

  2. It could be from a silver proof set. It of course would still retain some of it's proof appearance even if mishandled. If silver the coin would weigh 6.25 grams if copper/nickel 5.67 grams. Take it to some one with a scale like a jeweler or coin dealer. It is not uncommon cor clad coins to lose that copper line in the edge due to wear or other means. Hope this helps

  3. In Proof-65, it is valued at $19.00.
