2001 Saab 93 Why does my engine check light go on?

I have a 2001 Saab 93 2.2 Tid.

The temperature gauge suddenly drops to the bottom of the dial (as if it had no power), at the same time the engine light turns on, this only lasts a second and then it all goes back to normal. After this happened a few times, the light is now always on and the temperature gauge seems to work normally.

The car is working fine, no different from usual, any ideas?

  1. Upgrade to latest software. You will get  rid of all such problems. It is a software error. When did you visit your dealer the last time?

  2. it's probably time for a check-up through your dealership...

if you have the manual, it'll tell you in there how to get rid of the check-engine light... in my car, you have to turn on the car WHILE pressing the odometer reset button.
