Clutch not working at all. It was working fine last time I used the bike, all of the sudden no clutch at all. I haven't done anything to it, for it not to work. The bike only has 6,000miles, the cable seems fine. I started it, let it run for a bit like always. Then tried putting it in 1st gear, and shut off. Tried it a few times and the same thing keeps happening, any ideas???

  1. Take it back to the dealer. If it packed up that quick i should think it would be a warranty issue.

  2. At the handle bar, where your clutch lever is...loosen the big s***w with the slash cut in it, then tighten the other s***w as tight as it will go. Now pull the clutch lever...do you have clutch? Don't leav it like that, I just want to see if it will tighten enough to get you clutch.

    Does it?

If so, loosen the big s***w again, and slowly back the small s***w out until it just start to pull the cable.

If you adjust it at the handle bars and aren't getting clutch, then you need to do a Major clutch adjustment at the motor side of the cable. Try what I asked you to do, tighten it all the way up and see if that gets you clutch, it it does...great!!! If it doesn't, let me know and i will talk you through doing a major clutch adjustment

  3. couple of things to try, this will tell you if its mechanical or an electrical fault...firstly you want it on the centre stand or at least u want the rear wheel off the road...start it,and stick it in to gear....if it goes in and the rear wheel turns and its still running you can forget electrics[side stand/clutch switch]...if it cuts out check the switches,...

secondly its possable the plates are stuck together, sit on bike, start it,start pushing with your feet to get a bit of movement and stick it in first...fingers crossed it will move under its own steam..next job is to pull in the clutch, press both brakes whilst reving it on and off[kangaroo it]...with any luck the plates will brake free and its sorted....let us know how you get on..

  4. It sounds to me that either your clutch lever or sidestand safety cut outs are playing up. Basically they are just a sensor that when you dip the clutch lever or flick the sidestand up, they allow the wire to earth. Unfortunately I don't know any wiring colours though. Not complicated in any case just look for any loose wires and have a play with the little module.

  5. I thougt GSXR has a hydraulic clutch.   Check the oil level and bleed the line.

  6. you mean the bike shuts off, did it jump forward.

I ask because alot of bikes have safetys that require certian things like clutch switch active, kick stand up etc when you put in gear or it kills bike. Check your manual, also sit on bike with kickstand up, pull in clutch and see if it starts. If it does you know your clutch is ok, and that maybe one of these safety switches are not working.

  7. Gsxr 750 srad up to K3 are notorious for having heavy clutch, hence the change to hydraulic in the end.

Most have a little jump foward selcting 1st gear, and most have difficulty free rolling with the clutch in while in gear.

That said it shouldnt be that noticable.

Unfortunately the clutch cable has stretched, as they do over time.

You can adjust up at the lever end, by unscrewing the big round disc nut, then extending the guide shaft and re do up the big disc nut.

If you have used all the available thread up there, you can remove the left side panel and where the clutch cable goes into the clutch casing theres another set of nuts to which you can do the same thing.

Personally for the £20 a K2 cable costs replace it so not to put excessive wear on the friction plates and clutch basket.

Did you have the stand down when it shut off. Switches arent likely to go on a k2 model. Although everyone jumps to that conclusion, we have had all gsxrs from 1996 SRADS upto K8 stealths and never seen a switch go. Only rear brake switches to be honest.

    Have fun.

  8. Hi if it's  been a while between using the bike a few weeks say, its possibly the friction plates stuck together, the first thing to try is let the bike get really warm(fan cutting in twice) then hold the clutch in (engine kill switch off) and bump start with a mate pushing the shock may release the plates . this hasn't had an after market  slipper clutch fitted i take it ..good luck
