Question:

2002 Grand Am Strut Mounts....?

I have been hearing a clunk when I hit dips or bumps in the road around the wheel (front passenger side). I was told that my strut mounts need to be replaced.

What is the purpose of a strut mount and I was told until the parts come in it's okay to drive, it's safe, is this true?

  1. strut mounts are rubber. they mount between the strut and strut tower. safe? metal beating on metal. lots of unneeded wear.

  2. front strut mounts are what hold the springs to the struts...and how the top of the strut attaches to the car, there should be 3 studs with nuts sticking out the top of the strut tower and in the center you should be able to see the top of the strut rod with a washer and nut on it....inside that mount are bearings and that is what it pivots on, usually there is a metal sleeve in the center of the mount and the rubber around it states to separate....change the struts and mounts....both side....

  3. they hold the strut to the body, depending on wear if its safe to operate
