2002 chevy suv cd trying to eject cd no cd in

son plays alot of burnt cd's and now after a cd was removed the player is still tryng to eject a cd even after the car is off and it ran the battery down. Do you know how to fix the problem. it will eject a cd automatically but then keeps tryng to eject with nothing in it.
