2003 Busch (now Nationwide) body styles at Talladega and Daytona?

I know that back in 2003, Nascar brought fourth a new, larger chassis to the Chevorlets, Fords, Dodges, and Pontiacs. These chassis were used as well in the Busch series. But I noticed at the Talladega and Daytona races the Busch series used the 2002 chassis. My question is, why?

  1. They just use a different aero package.  The cars have a 1" strip across the roof of the car 10" from the windshield and another 1" strip across the rear spoiler.  This was introduced to help w/passing along with control speed.  Increase in restrictor plates are generally used for speed control.

  2. Maybe you mean bodies? It migth have been the aero package might have wanted to run. I do remember that but can't remember why. I remember those days when you could use the slingshot.

  3. My guess is probably there was some sort of benefit for running the chassis. Maybe a little bit lighter. But also keep in mind for the cars back then every single part of the car was built differently for tracks. So chassis, for 1.5 mile/ .5 mile/ 2.5 mile tracks were all differently. Nascar has not had a problem with using cars from the past, remember when Ford and Chevy were using dominating. And Dodge when they were struggling with the Charger, they jumped back to using the Intrepid for races.
