Question:

2003 Grand Am warning dash lights on?

I have a 2003 Grand Am GT and at times the "ABS" light, "Service Vehicle Soon" light and the "Trac Off" light all come one at once. I either happens as soon as I put the car in drive and hit the gas or while I'm driving. As soon as the car is shut off and restarted the lights are gone, sometimes they'll come on as soon as I put it in drive again and hit the gas sometimes five minutes after driving, and sometimes 2 days later. The break fluid is good, traction works, doesn't seem to have any breaking problems. Could this just be a bad sensor since it comes on and off randomly? I was told it could be a wheel bearing at one time, but I was under the impression that the ABS sensor in a wheel bearing was magnitized. Meaning as soon as the metal wheel bearing would start to go bad a corode the metal would stick to the sensor causing the light to come on. If this was the case the lights should come on everytime i start moving because the metals always on the sensor now. Any other suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

  1. It's a GM POS what do you expect when you buy a car made for women.

  2. Most likely it is a wheel speed sensor

  3. I have an 04 grand am and had the same problem. Both wheel speed sensors inside the wheel bearings where shot and had to have the entire bearing assembly replaced. dealership cost about 700 dollars.mine started intermittently like yours and then just stayed on all the time.

  4. the wheel bearing and the wheel speed sensor are serviced as one part and are almost certainly the cause of your symptoms

  5. I concur with the wheel bearing speed sensor issue, one at a time.

However, there are 2 other things not mentioned.

One, is:  make sure the parking brake is all the way down, cables not seized, and switch/detector/sender sending properly.

The other, hardly ever manifests itself.  It would be the entire ABS sending unit, just for info.
