2003 Ram 1500 2wd quad cab w/ tow packg, 4.7 engine?

im looking at getting a travel trailor, but it weighs 8,000 lbs. can my truck do it safely, and not tear anything up. Also, i have just over 100,000 on this engine.

  1. The 4.7 v-8is a great engine and if the truck was built with the factory trailer tow package then even though you will  be right at it's limits if you dont go in the mountains then you should be ok for a short while.  I would feel better aboutit if your truck had the 3.90 rearend gears instead of the 3.55s but oh well.  Consider this if you can step down about 1500 lbs on the trailer or just get 2500 with a 5.7 hemi if you dont want to spring for the Cummins diesel that will be the better way to go in the end.

    thought all the tow packages on the trucks came with the 3.92 gears and not the 3.55

  3. it will tow it and do it well just make sure you have trailer brakes on the trailer or other wise getting it stopped wont be as easy as getting it going ,the towing capacity of the ram is well within the range of towing that trailer with no problems,its getting them stopped that always causes the problems,good luck.
