2003 VW Jetta GL or 2005 Nissan Altima S?

If i could buy a 2003 VW Jetta with 26k miles for the same price as a 2005 Nissan Altima S with 74K miles which should I get?

The Nissan Altima will last much longer and gets decent fuel economy.

Usually a newer car is recommended since it has better engine safety features etc.

But in this case, given the limited information it does look odd. For a 3 year old, the Altima has a lot of miles. Likely there will be problems coming up that you don't want to deal with.

On the other hand the 5 year old Jetta has only 26 K miles does look attractive. But works out to like 4000 Miles per year. Probably it was sitting in garage for a while. Get a decent mechanic of your own to look at it. If there are no problems then you should get that Jetta.
