2004 Chevy Monte Carlo

Ok my spedometer keeps messing with me it will say that i'm doing way faster than i am and in order to get it to read again i have to turn my car on and off about 10 -12 times just to reset the spedometer. any clue as to what is going on? Is there a recall on this car for this problem? let me know thnks much

  1. probly speed sending unit on tranny sendind bad info to computer/speedometer..  can't just look/see...need to have it tested at garage/dealer....


  2. I would say you probably need a new guage cluster.

    When you bring it to GM, they will verify and order a new one for you. Im most cases this is a 'dealership only' part, as the new cluster has to be programmed by a GM computer after installation.

    edit: a recall is specific to a particular vehicle, so you will have to call or bring it in for them to see if your VIN falls into the category of a replacement. Normally you would receive a letter in the mail if it is.
