Is a 2004 Mitsubishi Lancer ES (automatic, 4 door sedan) significantly more expensive to insure than a 1993 Honda Accord LX (also automatic, 4 door sedan)? I am 18 and have had my drivers license for 2 months.

  1. Well, as a new driver, I would say that insurance for the Mitsubishi is going to be much more expensive per month than a Honda. I'd guess like atleast $50 a month difference. Insurance is really different for everyone though.  You might find an insurance company that offers you a rate thats not too much higher for the Mitsubishi.

Are you going to be on your parent's insurance? If so, you could probably bring down your payment $50-$100 a month.  Also, are you a student with a B average or better? Most insurance companies offer a good student discount.

The only way you can find out for sure is to do some research. Don't waste your time calling insurance agents.  Just compare quotes online to see what different companies are offering you for the two vehicles so you can make the decision of what's best for you.  I would also call your parents company and ask them what rate they will offer you for the two different cars.  The site below is a great resource because it allows you to compare rate quotes for all of the insurance companies in your area for free.

    Good Luck!
