Question:

2004 Nissan Altima 2.5l 4 cyl.?

I drove the car and felt a jerk. As I pulled back into the shop the car died but cranked back up. Scanned car and came up with cyl. 4 mis firing... i pulled out no 4 and number 2 and the gap had been closed ,,,so the question is what would cuase this.

  1. You need to seperate the intake manifold and look at the power valve butterflys for missing screws. And some time the cat converter fails and parts of cat get blown into the motor.  


  2. If you felt a jerk in your car, you should be more selective about who you give rides to.

    All kidding aside - my guess is the plug gaps were never correct the last time they were changed. The only way the gap can get smaller is if you bend the electrode, and there's no way I can think of for that to happen when the plug is installed.

    Perhaps whoever installed them last bumped them on the engine as they were getting installed, that could cause the gaps to close somewhat.
