2004 Tomis CONSTANTA defeats Dinamo KRASNODAR in Challenge Round match of CEV
2004 Tomis CONSTANTA of Romania competed with Dinamo KRASNODAR of Russia on the night of February 21, 2012.
The two teams met each other in a match of the Challenge Round of the 2012 CEV Volleyball Cup that is currently being hosted in many of the European cities. The match between CONSTANTA and Dinamo was staged in the Romanian city of Constanta.
The Russians and the Romanians put up a good show by taking the match to five sets with each set of the match closely contested. However, it was the home squad that got its hands on the win at the following final set scores: 25-23, 24-26, 25-21, 22-25 and
15-13.
The head coach of the home team, Darko Zakoc, expressed himself in the following words at the press conference that was held after the end of the match, “I am really satisfied with the result and also with the performance of my players even though they could
have done even better. The schedule of our domestic competitions was recently disrupted by the very difficult weather conditions registered everywhere here in Romania but this somehow did help our preparations for this match. We shall be able to capitalize
on this also next week in Russia and go for a good result again.”
On the other hand, the captain of the winning team, Claudia Gavrilescu, shared her views in this manner, “Everything just came together tonight: good shape, right focus and so on.”
The first and the second sets of the opening frame saw the Dinamo squad in control but the home team was close behind. After a tough competition, the Romanians were successful in bagging the first frame of the game. The loss of the first set made the Russians
step up their game in the second frame but the Romanians were not ready to give up. There were several lead changes but the Russians were able to tie the match by securing the second set.
The Romanians asserted themselves with a third set win but the Russians brought the game to a deciding fifth set that was intensely competitive after which the home side emerged as victors.
