  1. Pull the head, port and polish the intake and exhaust ports.  Maybe a cam, depends as I have not read up a lot on the 04 YZ250F.  But, one for sure power gain is in jetting the carb for a good header, but you're looking at about $200 to 500.  The low end for used stuff on eBay with the upper end being new stuff.

You should also check your gearing.  Track conditions and gearing go hand in hand.  Lighter flywheel for more RPM's. Hotter ignition and Bosch plugs to burn ALL the fuel supplied by the other mods mentioned above.  I changed tires every two races.,  The sharp knobbies make all the difference in the world as far as I'm concerned.  And while we're talking about putting power to the ground, you need to practice understanding tuning your suspension.

The real fact is though, if you were capable of riding a stock bike to it's potential you could win a world championship.  For the past 20 years the stock bikes were more than almost ALL riders could take advantage of.  If I were you I would work on understanding gearing and suspension tuning first and foremost with regard to bike performance.

Personally, to get the most out of your bike is to time a few laps.  Then use chalk marks to practice your braking into turns, if you even need to brake while racing a 4-stroke.  You have a friend watch you closely as you go into each turn.  He will chalk mark where you began breaking.  Your next run through the turn you make sure you go past your previous braking mark.  He marks the new braking point.  Repeat that until you've found your closest braking point.  Do that with all your turns.  Then start timing your laps.  I guarantee improvement.

And remember, let the bike do the work.  You need to hold on tight in certain spots, you know where, but when you can let the bike do all the work, do it.  Try to find some David Bailey videos from when he was considered the fastest man on the planet.  He was the smoothest rider I've ever seen.  Him and Jon Michael Bell. (pardon my spelling) JMB won the 125 World Champion his first season and the quit racing and went onto something else as I recall.  He was the most naturally talented rider I'd ever seen.  Just pure mx talent.

  2. Depends on how much money you have to spend. If you've got a lot, get something like a complete exhaust system (FMF, White Brothers, Yoshimura and Big Gun make some of the best) this will add bolt-on ponies.  You can also put a different carb on it. Make sure your valves are adjusted properly. There's not much else you can do to add a lot of horsepower unless youre willing to spend some big money upgrading the engine.  If you're racing its worth it to spend money on your suspension just as much as the engine.

  3. I am not so sure about four strokes, but get like pipes, high compession pistons, and better valving. Upgrade the ignition, and you should notice alot!

  4. look into getting your head modified.

look into getting an aftermarket exhaust.

look into getting a carb jet kit.

good head modifications will run around 1500 dollars, but you will have a race engine.

a good exhaust system will run around 500 - 1000 dollars. depending on the one you choose.

the jet kit is about 60 dollars.....

that will help out really well.

Pro circuit can do all of this for you...

  5. Carb jetting $75

    Hot cams $3-500

FMF megabomb header and 4.1 silencer $600

    Factory Connection suspension $500

  6. If your a motocross racer then you would know how to get more power out of your bike.
