2005 Chevy Colorado fan doesn't work?

This weekend the fan in my truck decided it didn't want to work anymore. I bought this truck new in '05 and haven't had a problem with the fan til now. I had it on a/c, cold setting, floor and dash vents on and it did not move any air on speeds 1, 2 or 3, but came on full blast on speed 4. I switched it around to just vent, put the temp level on neutral, still nothing. We drove for a bit, and I put it back to a/c, on cold, with the fan on off, then pushed the recirculate button a couple times and had that off, turned it to speed 1, and it worked! Ok, good it worked the next 45 min til we turned the truck off. Turned it on again and same thing, didn't work except on speed 4. I've now made several trips and it is still not working.

Can you tell me what the problem is? Is this something I can fix, or do I have to take it in.

The speed control is a resistor that lets more or less power to the fan creating different speeds and yours is acting up.  when it does go, the only 2 settings you have are off and high.  It's not too expensive of a fix.

your fan switch is bad on the dash! just replace the switch.

It sounds like your belt may be slipping. The same thing happened in my nissan. My advice, go to the auto store and ask to buy a a/c fan belt for your car. That normally costs anout $20. Then take it to a mechanic if you don't know what you are doing. They usually charge about $60. It does show you where the belt is in your user manual, but it you try to do it yourself be careful not to mess up the other belts that are in there.  You'll probably have to take those off to get to the a/c belt.

There is a printed circuit board that has burned out. It controls the voltage to the fan. I have had this problem on many different GM models.

Depending on where it is mounted, the labor could be more then the cost of the part.
