2005 Harley Road King, engine was upgraded to 95 inches with a high performance Edelbrock kit by a good mechanic (not me). It has run fine this year but recently in the cool of the evening it accelerates when the throttle is turned way up but stutters awful the rest of the time. I don't know what it has to do with the evening and frankly don't care, it might start failing during the day. Because of high compression it has a hard start but nobody seems concerned about that. There has been much discussion about the battery, now three years old. The care of it has been mediocre. Recently we found the ground wire got loose and was tightened up. A load test found it fine but I've found those to lie. I finally replaced my Triumph battery after a good load test but a new battery was needed. The theory is that the battery is sometimes needed when the generator doesn't charge. My friend recommends cleaning connections, riding it and see what happens. I'm confused.

do you own a vom meter with a MA setting?

whats happening is polarity is reversing, this can be confirmed with the use of the proper test equipment, or you can take it to a HD Mechanic and tell him what I told you and he will be impressed

  2. an 05 road king should be efi, and a bad battery or loose ground sure could wreck havoc on the driveability... recheck it all again
