Question:

2005 Sentra Spec V and its stalling out while driving?

Recently the service engine light came on and it has begun to act out in a very bad way. Once, and only once every time the car is started about 10 minutes (almost to the minute) the car will try and stall. If I am in gear and moving, it bucks like a missed shift then resumes normal driving with no more problems. If I am at a stop, or even rolling in neutral the car dies and brake light comes on and of course I lose power steering which can be scary in the middle of a busy intersection turning. Sometimes it fires back up immediately, sometimes it takes a half hour which of course was the last time it happened during rush hour. Any help would be fantastic.

  1. On 03-04' models there is a recall for the Crankshaft Position Sensor on this vehicle where the symptoms are identical to what you are experiencing.  Yours may also be covered under this.  Call the dealer and give them your Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) and they can tell you.

I just had the recall done on my 03' model last Friday.  It had quit starting altogether.  I had to get a new ECM too which wasn't under recall but was under warranty (yippie!!!!).

  2. My dad had a 1994 Chev Cavalier station wagon that would do this, and the engine compression was off...  Unfortunately, what had to be done was a total engine transplant, which is exactly what you dont want to hear (sorry!).  They did reading one each of the cylinders in the engine and that was how they diagnosed it.

Maybe your car isnt 'breathing' and needs more air in the fuel mixture?
