2005 diesel truck - long crank upon start, but does start up?

have a 2005 dodge ram 2500 - this morning came across the situation that the truck is taking a long time to start (cranking). Any suggestions on what it could be?

  1. do you always turn the key back to warm up the glow plugs first? if not, it could mean your plugs are going bad prematurely, and some of them arent firing as hot as the rest of them are...get those checked and go from there..good luck!


  2. Change the fuel filter.  You don't need to cycle the air intake heater in the summer months.  My truck starts without preheating.

  3. and have you change any of the filters like fuel or air  or have you added any fluid treatment .. if not do so might help also.. i drive a 04 ford
