i have a 2005 gs500. it was stalling out then cleaned carbs (didnt take apart or rebuild) flushed w/ carb cleaner though. got it running, ran great for 200 miles and started stalling again! it only had 2300 mi when stalling 1st started. could they need to be rebuilt or replaced after only 2500 mi? i also changed spark plugs and idle was set perfectly before probs reoccoured. what should I do wthout going poor!

  1. It might be the ignition wiring which cause you to lose spark, or your carb may need to be rebuilt (not so likely but maybe)you could check over.

  2. Since cleaning/flushing the carbs seemed to help before, I'd try that again.  Then drain the tank and refill with fresh gas to make sure there is no water in the gas.

Two other things I'd do is to install an in line fuel filter(s) between the tank and the carbs and use some fuel system cleaner like STP to clean gum, varnish etc... from the tank, fuel lines and carbs.

At 2500 miles there should be no reason the carbs need to be rebuilt , or replaced.  If however, the bike is stored during the winter, the fuel system cleaner will help to clean things up.
