2006 Kawasaki zx10r too much to handle???

I found a used '06 ZX10R for really cheap and low miles & great condition and I was wondering if it would be too much for me to handle. I've owned a Kawasaki KX125 2 stroke dirt bike for about 3 years and I am 5' 11" 160 lbs. 18 years old. I figure that it will only go as fast as you twist the throttle, so as long as I just take it easy until I get a feel for it, I would be alright?? Any advice is appreciated. Another question: in first gear is it hard to keep this thing on two wheels? I don't wanna be doing any wheelies haa. Thanks for all of you help!!!!

  1. Let me start by saying that anytime another rider gets on the the road the world seems a little better. as for the zx10r...that is a lot of bike for an experienced rider to handle, and I'm not just talking about speed here, it is not going to recover or respond to corrections the way a lighter and more nimble bike will, and as such is much less forgiving of mistakes. Those characteristics will only be amplified by the wheel lifting power that bike has, and now i am talking about speed. according to the U.S.Navy the loss of young sailors to buying a "superbike" without experience has brought about the decision to require any sailor buying a sport bike to be required to take a sport bike specific riders course. So the only suggestion i have is take a course to get some experience, wear good gear, and above all have fun.....

  2. You know, if its that good a deal, id be an *** to tell you no, but a litre bike right off the bat is a little insane. If your heart is set on her, then get it, but 1000's are extremely torquey and if you dont respect her, she will have you in a hospital, if not a coffin. Alot of my friends have started on 600s which everyone on Y! A says is a deathwish and been just fine, but a few have gotten some severe road rash. If you get it, take a MSF course as some of what you learn there might be just enough to save you life, (as well as a little on insurance!). Above all, just respect the bike, take it slow til you learn what she'll do, and you should make it safe! But be careful! Wear a snell+dot helmet, i prefer shoei, and good leathers! See you on the road soon!
