Evo- 286hp, 289tq, 0-60 5.6, 1/4 mi. in 13.7 @ 102mph.

Sti-300hp, 300tq, 0-60 5.5, 1/4 mi. in 13.9 @ 97mph.

both have 18-24 mpg.

evo @ $35,189

Sti @ $32,995

the evo looks better to me. less hp, but overall faster. the Sti more hp, faster in short distance, only .1 seconds though. and that was on cars.com so... it could differ in real life. either could be faster. what do you think is a better car?

  1. EVO ALL THE WAY! All the STI has is a bit more hp. Other than that... EVO takes it all... looks, comfort, handling, performance, and the price, well, its worth every penny! Is it an MR edition? And that whole 1/4 mile stats, it depends on the driver too... you need to have skills to drive an EVO! HA!

  2. You should look at the episode of Top Gear in which they tested both against one another!

I would go for the lancer I think, because the looks are better, and on everything else they are almost equal… And the looks are worth the extra $2000 imo ;)

  3. STi all the way!!! Subaru is a very respected name, especially in regards to that car. It's quick, fun and you can toss it around like chopped salad. Evo is nice, a little over-rated in my opinion but a good competitor. I like the build quality, drive and feel of the STi but that is my personal opinion. Obviously the Evo is, as you stated, a little faster but honestly, unless you race a friend with an Evo or time yourself on tracks and what not, you will never notice the performance difference in everyday driving. Get the STi, put that $3K you save in the engine and never look back!

  4. Id take the evolution.. oh wait I did. I have a friend who owns a STI, and its d**n fast, but he said it has a steering that doesnt respond quite as quickly. That aside... the sti doesnt look that nice at all, like a civic with a bodykit. The 06 evo isnt that much better, but at least its a little bit better looking.

  5. Overall I agree with some of the other comments.  I would not buy the car that has the best times when it is close as it is.  I am a die hard subaru fan but both cars are great.  One thing that no one else has mentioned is that is you are going to want to sell the car down the road the subaru should be worth more for the fact this year they converted the sti into a hatch back while the Evo continues to be a four door.  If you like both egually this might help if you would like to get more money back down the road.

  6. I wouldn't get too hung up on those test numbers - they are VERY close....close to the point where you couldn't tell any difference between the 2 cars when driving them unless you happened to be on a dragstrip against the other car for some reason.  Even then, a difference of 0.1sec to 60mph or 0.2 sec in a 1/4mi is the difference between a good launch and a great launch or between 1 car needing to shift near the end of the 1/4 mi and the other one not needing to...

Personally, unless I was planning to rally race the two, I'd get the Subaru.  I don't like the styling of either car myself, but the Subaru's bigger 2.5L turbo 4 has quite a bit more mid-range torque than the Mitsu's 2.0L turbo 4.  In real-world driving, I'd appreciate the mid range power of the Subaru a lot more than the dead-below 3000rpm then high end surge of the Mitsu.  There's nothing worse than driving around in a "fast" car and getting caught with your pants down at 2000rpm IMO.
